Algorithms

Algorithms have become an integral part of modern life. They help us make decisions, from what news articles we read to what products we buy. However, the documentary “Coded Bias” highlights how algorithms can perpetuate biases and have negative consequences for certain groups of people. One of the problems with algorithms is that they are only as unbiased as the data they are trained on. If the data is biased, then the algorithm will be biased as well.

To address this problem, my Twitter bot is designed to promote diversity and inclusivity in the public relations (PR) industry. Specifically, the bot retweets tweets that use the hashtag #DiversePR. This hashtag is used to share information, resources, and opportunities related to diversity and inclusivity in PR.

By retweeting tweets that use the #DiversePR hashtag, the bot helps to amplify voices that may not have as large a following. This helps to increase the visibility of individuals and organizations that are working towards creating a more diverse and inclusive PR industry. In doing so, the bot helps to promote a more equitable PR industry.

The bot also provides a centralized location for individuals and organizations interested in diversity and inclusivity in PR to find information and resources. By aggregating tweets that use the #DiversePR hashtag, the bot creates a space where individuals and organizations can find information on events, job postings, and other opportunities related to diversity and inclusivity in PR.

To create this bot, I used Zapier to set up a trigger and an action. The trigger was set to search Twitter for tweets that use the #DiversePR hashtag. The action was set to retweet any tweet that the trigger found. The screenshots below show the set-up of the bot in Zapier and the bot in action.

Overall, the #DiversePR Twitter bot helps to redress the problems highlighted in “Coded Bias” by promoting diversity and inclusivity in the PR industry. By amplifying voices and providing a centralized location for information and resources, the bot helps to create a more equitable PR industry.
